UMD Alumnus, Kevin Plank Marketing Graphic
Audience:
High school student football recruits for the University of Maryland and their parents
Design Problem:
While I was an intern with the creative design office for the Terps football team at the University of Maryland, I was asked to create an alumnus visual using Kevin Plank to be sent to recruits. The graphic was intended to impress the audience into wanting to belong to a university with a well-known repertoire and the location of famed athletic alumni such as Kevin Plank.
Why it works:
Kevin Plank is an essential figure as a Terps alumnus and plays a large role in what the team is today and as a subject of the design, will offer an emotional response for an audience the university is trying to have become part of the Terps team. This response is intended to be awe, excitement, and interest in the University of Maryland football team. He is a positive role model for incoming recruits and a very recognizable figure for founding Under Armor and running multiple businesses in the Baltimore area. The graphic includes University of Maryland colors and the infamous M logo with an up-close and personal image of Plank smiling—his own glare leading the viewers eyes to the text on the left and below to the information about who Plank is and why he is important.
Skills Applied:
Adobe Photoshop
Execution:
As an intern with the Terps creative team, I was given access to images and logos used by the University of Maryland athletics to create this alumnus graphic. I edited photos, formatted text, and designed the composition for this graphic after being assigned its purpose to promote Kevin Plank.
